Kilt and Accessories... And What some Kilt Hire Shops will not always tell you !!! The Kilt Firstly,....Pleats always go to the back !!!!and the Plain Front Apron(no pleats) to the Front. And don't let anybody tell you otherwise!! After you have it basically fitted to you, get down on both your knees, yes that's right, ON YOUR KNEES! The Bottom Edge of your kilt should be a 1/2" inch to 1"inch (10-25mm) off the ground. That is the correct way to do it.
The Sporran (Scotsmans purse) This is the "pouch/purse/bag type thing" with Tassles at the front of your kilt. This is held on by a leather strap/chain combination just under and/or alongside your waistbelt. The correct position for it to be at is judged by a 1 hands width measure directly down from the bottom of the waistbelt buckle.
Socks, Sox or Hose(call them what you may) Your Sock Tops when fully turned over and with your "Coloured Flashes" on Garters fitted too,the top should be 3-4 fingers down from the back of the knee. So,you put your right hand for right leg with the thumb hard in the back of your leg right at the knee joint bend and with 4 fingers against the outside of your leg, your sock top should be at the 3rd or 4 finger down.Same for left leg only use the left hand.Any problems, just call me.
Sock Flashes Those "Coloured Flashes" under your sock turnovers. These should be positioned just to the left or right of the centre of your socks and at the FRONT Only !!(not the back!!). If they get folded or creased and basically not flat, all you have to do is steam them over a boiling jug and they should revert back to a flat again. You may have to just press them flat with your hand just to be sure. That's it really. Sgian Dubh (knife in sock top) If your right handed,it's in the right sock and left handed, the left sock. With about 1 inch of the handle showing above your sock tops.No more.
Ghillie Shoes (The Lace Up Ones) There is a right and a wrong way to lace these up your legs to make sure they stay tight most of the day.Best explained in front of you well before being worn at all.Trust me on this one, NOT EVERYBODY knows how to do it right. And some hire shops wont tell you either.
